Walking in the mountains

The Gasteinertal valley is a paradise for walkers, Nordic walkers and mountaineers. There are all sort of strolls & walks, from simple strolls till extreme climbs. 7200 km signed walks>>> and more than 50 cable ways to explore in the summer. Further on we can recommend the  Kitzlochklamm>>> a beautiful 'klamm' to walk through and enjoy the scenery. Amazing how trees and ferns can grow. It looks almost a tropical environment. If you like you can also start for a walk at our cottage. Our Harbachmuhle is an excellent starting point for beautiful strolls, for example to Dorfgastein (about 5 km) or to Hofgastein. Or across the bridge to Luggau (3 km) where you can stop for a drink at the local gasthof. The Kotschachtal in Bad Gastein, at the border of the National Park Hohe Tauern>>>, is also an excellent place for walking and cycling. A nice spot to visit with your family. There are frequently, in high season, tours with the forester, in which you can sport several wild animals.

Challenging mountain bike and beautiful cycling tours

Salzburgerland is well-known for her many cycling tours, more than 6000 mountain bike and cycling tours>>>. In October 2009 the World championship Mountain biking will take place here. The valleys of Gasteinertal and Grossarltal are wide and therefore excellent for bikers. There are several separate cycling paths, through the villages. Terrific for families. For the more fanatic biker and mountain biker there are several long and high altitude tracks.  For racing you can use, like the Austrian cyclists, the rather flat high way. Or what to think about going up with your atb with the cable way and down hill with your mountain bike?
There are several possibilities if you like combine the mountain bike with the cable way. If you like to try this with your family we recommend the cable way of Dorfgastein. With the SalzburgerLandcard>>>  are the cable ways almost free. For the real biker who likes a challenge we recommend the Grossglockner, on the highway to Zell am See (on the right), the Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse>>>. A whole day trip with lot of hills and mountains to climb. Take warm clothes with you as the weather change very fast by going up.
At the top, and the way up, you have a lot op places to stop for a drink and rest. At the top you will have astonishing views of the Grossglockner. And than downhill, at the other side (or the same way back), via
Heiligenblut, which is an adrenaline trip with all the curves and the speed building up... Also a very nice trip to make by car or motor, beautiful sceneries and lot of nice stops on the way. And don't forget to pay a visit to the Gletsjer of the Grossglockner, in which you literally experience the warming of the earth and the melting of the gletsjer.
