Watermill We bought our Chalet Holliday house Harbachmühle>>> in 2005. The Cottage Harbachmühle was originally one of the 143 water mills used to ground the inhabitants flour. Now the Chalet Harbachmühle>>> is turned into a cosy holiday house, chalet/cottage.
There are still some working watermills which can be visited when you go to the Mühlenensemble>>>. (Gasteiner Höhenweg, A-5630 Bad Hofgastein, +43 664 2019752) Here you will find the 'oberschlächtige Radmühle' but also the 'Stock- or Flottermühle' ('Flodermühle').

At the start of the Gasteinertal
valley, 60 meters above the entrance road to the valley, an old castle is
found named
Burgt Klammstein>>>
This historical building is now an museum where different kinds of old
Gasteiner materials can be seen. The history of Gastein is passing by. For example, the first ski board which
inspired Mr. Burton to build his first snowboard. Worth knowing is that skiing was
also invented
in the Gasteiner valley.

The beginning of winter sport Probably the Austrian winter sport started in the Gasteinertal valley. In 1898 people already followed ski lessons and made ski tours. Amazing how early it already started. First ski lifts In 1920 plans were made for the first ski lifts and statistics learned us that 2100 guests visited Badgastein during the winter season in 1932/33. The first train track was realised in1938. Biggest winter sport spot The thermal and hotel facilities which was offered during the summer was also very attractive to use for the winter season. It is for this reason probably that Bad Gastein was pronounced in 1957/58 as the biggest Austrian winter sport village. In that time Bad Gastein had already 50 km of ski slopes.

Championships After the second World war championships already took place in Gasteineral. In 1948 Bad Hofgastein and Bad Gastein delivered the first Austrian Ski champion. In 1958 the ski world championship took place in Bad Gastein and is Bad Gastein still a pleasant spot for world title defenders. As well in 2001 as in 2006, 2007 and 2009 the slopes (pistes) of Bad Gastein are chosen for the snowboard world cup>>>.
